Room to Improve

The team teachers have looked at the results of the survey you took during advisory this week and there were some very thoughtful responses. The overall team “grade” was a 2.8, not bad, but certainly could be better. Each of you took the survey but did not get a chance to share your responses with one another because it was done anonymously. However, the responses to some of the questions particularly about what makes an effective team and what roles to students and teachers play in making a team effective were insightful.

I want you respond here~ like always, you may do so anonymously but at least this time everybody gets to hear what you have to say without knowing it was you!

What makes an effective team?
What role do students have?
What role do teachers have?

I believe that students should listen to their teachers teachings. I know its easier said than done but we can all atleast try and most of the time well probably get rewarded...

So Mr.H how do you think of us as a team so far???

As I told everyone last year~ I thought this team was the best group of seventh graders that I have had. I think we have a chance to have a very positive 8th grade year. My social studies classes went as smooth last year as previous years and that is a credit to the students.

Matt~ I think we have to make the most of what we have and not look at things we can't control. Yes, it's possible my room may have a distinct odor, but I have a nice window and outside door (that will come in handy in the spring)! As far as Mr. Dwelly's space- it may be small, but last year he shared a room with Ms. Mansour- so although it's small, it's bigger than what he had last year. And I'm sure that you still have plenty of friends that are still on the team. If not- make some new ones!

I don't like the way that we are so far away from where the buses load. Your really in trouble if you don't hurry to your bus! I also don't like that we have to be far from electives to, because then you get in trouble if your late! Either way, you can get in trouble.

I think Alen Shawn Feinstine is kind of selfish... I mean hes nice for donating the money to are school but I dont think he should of changed the school name. I mean look at Bill Gates he donates billions of dollars to schools and doesnt ask for one name. Its just, I like the name Knotty Oak. Alen Shawn Fein Stine middle school of coventry sounds like we are a strict school that wears uniform. Also we needed that money anyway because we got another grade add to the school and we had to get all new lockers and a new section was added to the school. The new lockers can barley fit any stuff inside on the top. My back pack also ripped from the weight. The rooms are a plus though. Mr Howman your room is huge!!! So is Ms Mansours. I like Mrs Graham to shes nice. The new school principal is strict to but hes nice sometimes.

peace out
Cory

Cory~ you are not alone in your displeasure regarding the name of the school being changed to Feinstein Middle School. But you should know that it was reported that Mr. Feinstein did not require the school to be named after him. The Kent County Times wrote an article about a month ago quoting members of the school committee saying that it was their decision to name the school after him as a token of appreciation.

Mr. H I am a little concerned about the mention of MOLD in the classrooms . Can't that lead to respiratory and health problems? :(

Well, nobody is sure if it is actually mold in the classroom or not. Let's hope it's not~ because there aren't too many alternatives outside of putting me on a cart and moving classrooms period to period. Of course, if it is determined that mold is there then it could be cleaned and hopefully eliminated!

The split rooms are a really bad idea..
1)- for warm ups you can hear the answers in math
2)-you cant go to the bathroom if you really have to go
3)-the classrooms dont really feel like classrooms more like a empty space that is filled with desks and material we need to learn
4)-People walking in and out of classrooms is irritating and disturbing

When your in Mrs.Grahams room, you can hear the people making lunch(banging stuff around)

Ms.Middletons room is nice even though its sort of tight because every time you go to get up you hit chairs with someone else.

The lockers are !wicked! small.. no one can fit there belongings in there
the school commity should have reconized that and use part of the 1 MILLION DOLLARS to buy bigger better and more useful lockers.
Most of the money went to the adminastrative section.

Now i know thats A LOT of complaining and sorry for that, but thats my oppinion.

I agree with Cory on the Allen Shawn Feinstein thing. I think he is so selfish to change our name like that. I always yell at him on the commercials haha. I HEARD (idk if its true) that some of the money went to Oak Haven, but they didn't change their name because Allen Shawn Feinstein already had a school named after him. And the money could have been much better spent; towards new lockers, or the pipe that drips on our food at my lunch table. I don't like the new name either, its long and sort of dorky.

I was lucky and gt a big locker, but I feel bad for people with the small ones, idk how they can fit their stuff in theree.

The worst thing though is the BUSES. I'm the first bus in the first cycle, so I have to look like a freak and run to the buses, and I've already missed mine twice.

I'm glad most of my friends our on Panthers, if they weren't i would diee. haha

what is up with these new assigned seats? hmmmm...What do you think Mr H..I mean I dont think we were that bad..

Cory~ it's tough for me to answer your question about the assigned seats at lunch because I'm not there. The assigned seats do not have anything to do with the team. Apparently Mr. Gomes feels that is is necessary. You would need to speak to him about it.

I don't like most of the new arrangements. Mrs Middleton's room is so small I get claustrophobic. I feel bad that the trimester teacher doesn't get a room at all and has to walk around all day! Many people have swapped teams and have new schedules. It's hard to endure!

i don't really mind the new scgool name or the new principals because they're all nice the new rooms could probably be better because some of the rooms really smell and mrs. middelton's room is kind of small and squshy, but the way i look at is that at least we have classrooms. i like my locker because it's just mine and i don't have to share it with anyone. and the teachers are all the same accept for mrs. grahm but i love her she is ssoo nice and funny and in ms. mansour's room i'm doing really well in her class this year. so as for all the changes i know they were for the best and i learned to like them although at first i didn't really like the lockers, principal's or new school name but no it's all fine.
